1st Stroller - Barton on Sea

What better place to be when the sun's going down with the Isle of Wight in all its glory and the golf course all to yourself!

The County

A beautiful hole at the County next to the Rosebowl just north of Southampton. This view is taken from the second and longer tee, a 190yd drive over a valley with trees on the left and a gulley at the back.

20 x 16 Acrylic

4th Manor Bramshaw Golf Club

This is a beautiful par 3 golf hole in all its autumn glory, popularly used as the nearest the pin hole for visiting societies. Sold

5th Stroller - Barton on Sea

The dramatic view of the 5th of Stroller fairway on a hot and sunny July afternoon. The Isle of Wight is 5 miles away but it still feels like you can reach out and touch it.

Original - Sold to BOS Professional Pete Rodgers as his favourite place on the course!

Nearly Home – 9 th and 19 th Needles Barton on Sea

This could be described as the signature hole for the Barton course. It is normally the 18th for the medal competitions, with golfers looking forward to a well earned meal and drink. However, many a good round has been cruelly spoiled by this hole. Totally surrounded by water, with access only by the bridge to the right of the picture, the green appears easily accessible. The difficulty is caused by the wind but more often the mind of the golfer who believes the water holds a magnetic attraction for the ball! Every BOS golfer who sees this painting says to me, pointing a finger “... and my ball is in there!”

The 18th Forest Course, Bramshaw Golf Club

This is the longest drive hole on the beautiful Forest course, so far you can hardly see the elevated green from the tee so I thought we should remind golfers where they had come from and where they came to at the same time.

The Tricky one – Barton on Sea 6 th Stroller

There are days when you can't see the Isle of Wight because of fog or sea mist and there are days when you feel you could almost reach out and touch it. This picture was painted in June 2004 when the trees, greens and fairways (and rough!) are blooming with growth. The view includes a favourite coastal path walk which leads from the Barton coastal car park to Milford on Sea. It also looks over the 7 th of Stroller fairway. The 6 th and 7 th fairways are guarded by a line of dense, dark bushes, shown in the picture, which stand ready to swallow any loose shot from either tee. Thanks Nick and Angelina for your encouragement by buying this as my first commercial sale!

The Biggest Challenge – 5th Barton on Sea Becton

This hole is deemed to be the biggest challenge of the golf course at stroke index 1. At just 400 yards from tee to green, the fairway requires a good drive to the edge of, or into the narrow mouth of, the valley in which the green sits. Then, for the confident, a high shot with a small iron over the water which protects the front of the green. Or, for those less disposed, a chip down into the valley and hope that the ball stops before the small lake! As well as being stocked with wayward golf balls, the lake is full of small fish such as minnows and koi and is regularly visited by herons, swans and even egrets from north Africa. The fish have some protection from the Iris and reeds which grow profusely. The picture is painted from the left side of the lake and the fairway of the 2nd of Becton as I avoided the blind approach shots from the less disposed!
